LMS Professions: Concrete Worker

30.03.2023

The profession of a concrete worker is associated with the laying and processing of concrete, which today is one of the main building materials. The concrete worker participates in the construction of residential buildings, industrial structures, bridges and other infrastructure facilities, works at factories for the production of reinforced concrete structures, and also performs repair work in apartments and private houses.

Modern concreting technology allows you to create structures of various complexity, sizes and shapes, which requires high qualifications and professional experience from a concrete specialist.

History of the profession

The first concrete structures were created in ancient Rome, where concrete was used for the construction of amphitheaters, aqueducts, temples and other three-dimensional structures. Then the technology was lost and, it seemed, forever. But in the middle of the XIX century, a material was created that became the prototype of modern concrete. Until the beginning of the XX century, the concrete mix was mixed manually, and laying and processing were carried out using simple tools.

In the XX century there was a sharp breakthrough in the development of concreting technologies. New types of concrete were invented, such as reinforced concrete and reinforced concrete, which made it possible to create strong and durable structures.

What is the job of a concrete worker?

The work of a concrete worker is responsible and time–consuming, and requires high qualifications and professional experience. The specialist must be able to properly prepare the surface for laying concrete, observe the technology of pouring the mixture and control the quality of concrete hardening.

Depending on the qualification, concrete workers perform different types of work, ranging from disassembly of reinforced concrete structures and the manufacture of concrete mix, ending with the creation of complex building structures.

The duties of the specialist include:

  • Preparatory work for concreting: cleaning and notching of concrete surfaces, dosage of components and preparation of concrete mixtures, installation of formwork, etc.
  • Laying concrete mix in foundations, foundations, horizontal and vertical surfaces, creating complex concrete structures
  • Additional works with concrete: installation and repair of concrete floors, concreting of trenches, wells, potholes, holes and furrows, installation of cement screed, etc.
  • Installation of temperature-shrinkage joints of ZhBK
  • Production of precast precast concrete products at construction sites
  • Disassembly of formwork and dismantling of concrete structures

The specialist should know the purpose, principles of operation of electrified and pneumatic tools and equipment used: concrete pumps, vibrators, concrete mixers, drying equipment, grinding machines, etc.

In order to become a concrete worker, you need to have a specialized education and get a certificate. The type of work performed by the concrete worker depends on its discharge.

LMS Group of Companies has been engaged in construction for many years under a general contract, providing high-level services to its customers. LMS employs a professional team of concrete workers with experience in the implementation of various objects.
